Welcome to sixth grade language arts and the Hurricane team! This is my fourth year teaching language arts at Marsteller. I received my undergraduate degree in English in 2006 and my master’s degree in secondary education in 2008 from George Mason University. In college I was a member of the women’s rowing team, where I learned how important it is to have an outlet like sports or hobbies in my life. Before coming to Marsteller I worked as a special education teacher for a program called Mason LIFE which helped to give a college experience to young adults with intellectual disabilities. I love to share my love and knowledge of reading and writing and look forward to having you in my class.
I was born in St. Louis, Missouri and moved to Northern Virginia when I was very young. In my spare time, I enjoy reading, cooking, and spending time with family and friends. I am currently training complete a three hour cycling event this fall to support veterans of the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq and to run a half-marathon this spring to support the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. I also am a huge Washington Capitals and St. Louis Cardinals fan!
I hope this year will be rewarding and challenging as we work through a variety of literature and write an array of pieces. My goal is to help each child find a life long love of reading and learning.
